The Cathedral was built between 1774 and 1826 by three architects including Domenico Cerato, to whom we owe the Prato della Valle in Padua, among other things. In the ancient part of the Cathedral there are frescoes from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, some paintings by Jacopo Da Ponte known as Bassano. In the main nave six minor altars embellish the environment, among these two altarpieces stand out for their importance: A painting by Michele Fanoli and one by Jacopo Apollonio, Bassano's nephew. In the sacristy there was once a picture gallery where paintings by famous painters were kept, such as: "The Supper at Emmaus" by Jacopo da Ponte, "Lament over the Body of Christ" by Andrea da Murano, "The Flagellation", attributed to Palma the Younger. Now the paintings have been placed inside the Cathedral Museum. The Cathedral also presented in the bell tower a truly unique museum of sacred art, which groups together all the works placed in the Cathedral in the different periods of its history. These works have also been transferred to the new Cathedral Museum inaugurated in May 2021.
