Situated in the district of Sant'Anna, on the dune system between Chioggia and the Po Delta, Bosco Nordio is an Integral Nature Reserve, an ancient coastal Mediterranean brushwood waiting to be explored. Bosco Nordio, once known as Fosson or Cerreto, was originally owned by the city of Chioggia and in 1565 it was given to the Nordio family, who perhaps intending to cultivate the land, completely destroyed it. By the end of the 18th century, a pine forest of domestic pine was planted on the remains of the ancient Mediterranean grove. In 1959, it was sold to the former State Company for Demanio Forests and the Integral Nature Reserve was established by D.M. 26/7/1971.
Today it is managed by Veneto Agricoltura. The Reserve is open to visitors on Sundays and public holidays from March until the end of October with hours from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, or by appointment at +39 345 251 8596.
