Mulino

Antico Mulino "pestasassi" Baccin, Cecchetto ora Stringa

Via Munari, 13 , Nove (VI) - 36055

Designed by Giovanni Maria Baccin in 1791, it was obtained by restructuring a building from 1638 and was exclusively used for the production of ceramic blends and varnishes. Essentially, it was used to grind quartz pebbles and calcium carbonate found in the nearby bed of the Brenta River and to crush and pulverize frits, glazes, and vitrines.

Upon Baccin's death in 1817, the mill passed into the Cecchetto Family's inheritance, remaining in operation until 1960. In 1965, it was purchased by the ceramist Carlo Stringa, who oversaw its restoration and maintenance.
The northern section, powered by a large wheel, preserves two sets of steel stamp mills; the southern section, constructed almost entirely in hard wood, achieves the crushing of 'frits' and their subsequent grinding and reduction into fine powders. Today, it stands as the oldest functional example of this type in Europe.
Since 1991, it has been under monumental protection by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage.
