The Casa Giorgione Museum is a passionate and attentive dedication to the Master of Castelfranco by his hometown, an open door to his world, to the atmospheres of an era of great cultural ferment. An era that marked and marks the Marca Trevigiana, with a past that is still alive and present today.
Inaugurated on 9 May 2009, at the opening of the celebrations for the 5th centenary of Giorgione's death, the Museum is set up in the very house where the artist painted the enigmatic Frieze, not far from the city cathedral that houses the splendid Pala. The two works of art, which are part of the city's heritage, are preserved in their original historical and environmental context, an essential condition for their correct reading and comprehension, a fundamental requirement for a newly conceived museum. Every object on display is connected with the environment that produced it, and the contents of the entire museum are welded to the territory. It is possible to enter the House not as a visitor to objects that are simply conserved and exhibited, but as a guest in a place that can make one breathe in the art and culture of the late 15th century through suggestions, quotations and images. Around the three fundamental elements on which the Museum was designed, the Castelfranco Altarpiece, the Frieze of the Liberal and Mechanical Arts and the House itself, revolve 100 original pieces belonging to the civic collections. Architectural reconstructions have also been created to offer a strong suggestion of the culture of the time.
The Museum also hosts temporary exhibitions.
