Casa Costanzo

vicolo del Paradiso , Castelfranco Veneto - 31033

Casa Costanzo was the residence of Tuzio Costanzo, the patron of Giorgione's altarpiece, who arrived from Cyprus in Castelfranco around 1475.

The layout is probably from the 14th century, and this building was the residence of the podestà before 1410.

The building exhibits Gothic influences, identifiable in the trifora with lobed ogival arches of the façade, adorned with the Costanzo coat of arms in stone. In the main hall, the coats of arms of the Costanzo and Verni di Maiorca families, the household of Tuzio's wife, are frescoed, along with two refined wall friezes: one, on a dark red background, contrasting two female figures; the other, on a gold yellow background, depicts winged seahorses, lions, and sirens among foliage.
