Renaissance palace of the wealthy Soranzo family, who had it built during the 14th century, right opposite the Civic Tower. During the course of the 1700s it became the property of the Novello family, who had it renovated by Francesco Maria Preti, mathematician, architect and scientist, who was also responsible for the design of the Duomo and the Teatro Accademico in Castelfranco Veneto.
The documented history of the Palazzo begins at the end of the 15th century, almost at the height of the splendour of Venice and the fame of Giorgione. Over the centuries, moreover, its history is intertwined with a more ‘unofficial’ one that tells of art thefts and the financial epic of the mythical North East of the 1990s.
