Chiesa di San Quirico
Via Don Tazzoli, 6 , Valdagno - 36078
The existing natural cave near San Quirico, where thousands of ancient everyday objects related to human survival have been found, is an official document of human settlement in this area; the period dates back to about 7,500 years ago. Other evidence speaks of the presence of Romans and Lombards, as the mountain of Campetto was an accessible point for movements between neighboring provinces (Trento-Verona-Vicenza). A new church, dedicated to Saints Quirico and Giulitta, was built with the contribution of faithful and donors, as written in the transept of the side door, dated 1787. Right in front of this church, through the village of San Quirico, the road leading to Recoaro was built between 1816 and 1817. From 1867, baptism could be administered in San Quirico after Don Giuseppe Zaupa obtained the concession for the baptistery. The history of the new church begins in 1913 with the purchase of the necessary land by Don Domenico Zambon. In 1916, Don Giuseppe Sgarbossa arrived in San Quirico, and in 1925, work on the crypt began; finally, on June 16, 1942, it became a parish. The new bell tower was built in 1944. In 1958, the current church was built according to a design by Paolo Zaupa, which was blessed on August 7, 1960. The crucifix above the main altar serves as a reminder of the religious service in San Quirico entrusted to the Crociferi friars of Santa Croce in Vicenza, and the altarpiece in the left apse depicts the martyrdom of Saints Quirico and Giulitta.
