Monte Cengio is the war path realized of the Italian soldiers during the First World War after the Sftrafexpedition and it is one of the places most important of Asiago Plateau.
Monte Cengio is easy to reach:
-From Vicenza follow the A31 Valdastico to Piovene Rocchette from here take provincial road SP349, after the returns continue along the main road and on the left find a Locanda – Restaurant “Ai Granatieri”. Stop there and take the left by car with the sign to “Monte Cengio”. Continue along the paved road up to “Piazzale Principe del Piemonte” and continue by walk.
-From Bassano: reach Asiago and follow for Vicenza, passing Canove and Treschè Conca, small villages of Roana Common, along the main street SP349 on the right find a Locanda –Restaurant “Ai Granatieri”. Follow the same sights given above.
From “Piazzale Principe del Piemonte” starts the path composed by a small road, that uphill in the wood and enter in the mule track called “Strada dei Granatieri”.
In these part find some galleries and long stretches dug on a precipice and panoramic ledge.
The view over “Valle dell’ Astico” and the plain below throughout the journey is really thrilling to take your breath away.
After the last part of the trail with the important “Galleria di Comando” reach the “Piazzale Pennella”, where it is possible admire a vast and beautiful landscape overlooking the central basin plateau, than reach the top of mount. After arriving on the top of mount, can return at “Piazzale Pennella”. Stop along the way at the small church entitled to “Granatieri di Sardegna”.
The soldiers sacrificed themselves to launch a massive attack during the Strafexpedition.
Finally return at starting point retracing the paved road from “Piazzale dei Granatieri” to “Piazzale Principe del Piemonte”.
