In front of the hamlet, at the crossroads, stands the charming country chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Snow.
The devotion to Our Lady of the Snow dates back to the 4th century when Pope Liberius, around 360, had a temple built in Rome for Our Lady of the Snow following a vision and a miraculous snowfall. In 431, the temple was replaced by the Basilica of St. Mary Major.
Inside the little church is a statue of Our Lady of the Rosary with the blessing Child. We observe that the child Jesus holds in his left hand a miniature of the Roman basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.
On the ceiling, there is a fresco depicting the Madonna seated among the clouds, blessing the Basilica of Our Lady of the Snow in Rome, accompanied by the figure of the Pope with ten faithful and three altar boys. Above the door, there is a fresco that presents a view of the hamlets of Campi Piani, a work by the painter from Priabona, Angelo Peruzzo.
Every year, on August 5th, the local committee organizes a festival in honor of Our Lady of the Snow.
A legend tells that the Madonna, who appeared in this place more than a thousand years ago, left the impressions of her feet on a rock. This event, recalled by tradition, is to be linked to a similar episode that took place on the hill of St. Victor near Priabona, and can be framed in the Carolingian Period (around the year 800 AD).
