The villa consists of several buildings dating back to the Seventeenth and Eighteenth centuries, partly erected on pre-existing Gothic structures, revolving around a vast paved courtyard that opens to the east into a scenic viewpoint from which a suggestive panorama can be enjoyed.
Villa Da Schio Caretta (known as Cita) is the symbolic meeting place for all the inhabitants of Montecchio Precalcino, where numerous events and local festivals take place.
The Villa is located on the "mountain" of Montecchio Precalcino and the complex is made up of a villa (second half of the 17th century), a barchessa (second half of the 18th), a rustic building (1753), and a chapel (1762). Adjacent to the villa, there is also a beautiful park.
The commissioner of the villa was a member of the Da Schio family, while for the other buildings, the commissioner was a member of the Stecchini family.
For a long time, it was believed to be erected on a design by Andrea Palladio, but it is actually a (heavily altered) restructuring of a pre-existing building by Pietro da Nanto, who worked on it starting from 1552.
Villa Cita da Schio was donated to the Municipality of Montecchio Precalcino in 1978 by Mrs. Marianna Cita Cabianca.
