Villa "La Montanina" was commissioned in 1907 by the writer Antonio Fogazzaro, who oversaw the design down to the smallest details together with architect Mario Ceradini, according to the canons of Liberty and Viennese Secessionism. The writer monitored the construction site as if it were a daughter and named the sources in the park: Riderella and Modesta.
Villa Montanina was the summer residence of Antonio Fogazzaro where he set the events of Leila.
Heavily damaged by bombs in 1916, as it was the headquarters of the Austrian command, it was purchased by Monsignor Francesco Galloni, rebuilt and expanded between 1927 and 1932 to serve as the center of the "Pro Oriente" organization.
Fragments of the previous construction remain, featuring the Magi, mostly covered by the Annunciation, and the quadrifront herm with the date 1907 inscribed on it.
In the central hall, there was an enormous window facing the valley, framed by Pompeian columns and two majestic staircases. The nearby chapel is dedicated to Santa Maria dei Monti. The building, enlarged by engineer Umberto Valdo, is so harmonious that it is difficult for someone who does not know to distinguish the new wing from the original one.
