Capitello dei Bissui
via Monte Cengio , Cogollo del Cengio - 36010
It is a shelter built from local white stone, pebbles, and bricks. It has a rectangular layout, with a gabled roof. Inside, on the side opposite the entrance, there is a niche. The small temple is located on the road leading to the Bissui next to the spring of the same name. It is accessed through a wide door. Towards the niche, there is a step that probably served as a base for the altar. The niche is made from plastered brick. Under its cylindrical vault, the only visible decorative element appears. It is a five-pointed star carved from a block of marble set at the top of the niche itself. Inside the star, there is an inscription of a circle, which serves as a housing for the cross carved there. Besides its sacred function, it also seems evident that it served as a capital-shelter, given its dimensions and especially its location near a spring that once acted as a wash basin. The capital and the surrounding area were restored by the Alpine group of Cogollo in 1990 and inaugurated on May 27, 1990. The capital can be reached with a short walk starting from Via MonteCengio.
