Located in the area of the Castle of Caterina Cornaro, the Civic Tower returns to be one of the must-see attractions of the village of a hundred Horizons.
From the top of the bell tower, one can enjoy a charming landscape that spans from Monte Grappa to the historic center of Venetian inspiration, and the emotions it evokes change with the seasons and their colors.
In the rooms of the Civic Tower, temporary exhibitions are often set up, and the writings left by prisoners who were confined there during World War I are still clearly visible.
The Civic Tower, or the Clock Tower, is one of the four towers of the Castle of Asolo.
The defensive building, known from sources starting from the 10th century, rises on a rocky spur located southwest of the Asolan hills. It was likely built in wood and was reconstructed in stone between the 10th and 11th centuries. The original structure has been extensively altered over the centuries and particularly in the 12th century by the Ezzelini and finally in the 14th century by the Venetians. The current dimensions are due to the demolition and dismantling of dilapidated buildings carried out in the 19th century.
It is also known as the "Castle of Queen Cornaro" as it was the residence of Caterina Cornaro, Queen of Cyprus, Jerusalem, and Armenia (1472-1489) and Lady of Asolo from 1489 until her death in 1510.
