The Monte di Pietà (pawnshop) was established in 1493, in a massive building, where now is located the Library of the city.
The pawnshop was the only place where poor inhabitants of Castelfranco and the surrounding villages could ask for loans.
The Library hosts the Historical Archive of the City, which houses around 7000 books, from the 15th century to 1950.
