Chiesa di San Nicola
Via Porto, 34 , Malo - 36034
Its history is closely linked to the noble family of Porto, from which the street where the church is located takes its name. In 1537, Nicolò da Porto expressed in his will the desire for an oratory in honor of Saint Nicholas to be built next to his noble residence in the ancient "Contrà." In the early years of the seventeenth century, his nephew Don Gianpaolo had a church (with an attached house for the chaplain) built in memory of his grandfather Nicolò, still dedicated to the same saint. Over the centuries, the entire complex on via Porto remained the exclusive property of the noble family until it was donated to the parish of Santa Maria di Malo. The most significant work of art, still appreciated inside the church today, is the eighteenth-century altarpiece depicting Saint Nicholas exercising evangelical charity. After the restoration carried out in 1993, the building has been designated to host the San Nicola Senior Center of Malo.
