Next to the garden of Villa Castellani Fancon, there is the small church of San Francesco.
It was built at the behest of Francesco Muzan in the early 1500s, probably on a more modest Gothic building, and became a point of reference for the religious life of the inhabitants of the area who worked the land.
The facade is very simple: it is built on a stone base and bears an inscription with the commission and the date.
It was executed by an architect whose name remains unknown to us, who was probably related to Lorenzo da Bologna, active in Vicenza at that time.
The bell tower, of Gothic design, has undergone numerous interventions over the centuries.
The shaft is original and dates back to the 15th century, probably contemporary with the previous chapel that existed before the current one. The interior preserves traces of decorative bands that date back to 1507.
On the floor there are two tomb seals, one with the coat of arms of the Muzans and one with that of the Castellanis.
The holy water font comes from the Sanctuary of Santa Libera; the basin dates back to the 14th century and constituted the baptismal font of the parish.
Significant is the 17th-century altar characterized by a pediment in Rococo style, supported by two columns.
The altarpiece, painted in oil on canvas, depicts the Madonna with Child and Saints.
The tabernacle dates from the early 18th century.
With the arrival of the Napoleonic troops, the church served as a refuge for the soldiers and was later abandoned.
Renovated in 1836 by the Castellani family, it was restored for worship.
