The Sanctuary until the second half of the 15th century was called "Santa Maria degli Angeli," a name due to the presence of the Franciscan Fathers. The current name was assigned by the people of Piovene in 1488. The church was rebuilt in the same year, when it also underwent various expansion works.
On that occasion, an image of the Annunciation was found by a certain Agostino da Piovene; from this point onward, the church took the name “dell’Angelo” instead of “degli Angeli.”
The church is mentioned for the first time in 1457 when its care was entrusted to Fra' Agostino, a priest from Vicenza. The original sanctuary was very small, the structure was expanded in 1488 and subsequently in 1870, implementing the presbytery, the altar of the Madonna, and the related wooden statue.
In 1877, the two side chapels were added. Given the large number of faithful who came here from all over, it was decided to add the south and north aisles in 1890.
Inside the sanctuary, there is also a collection of ex-votos including a series of painted tablets.
